9 بیماری که با تشخیص موکورمایکوزیس در بخش گوش، گلو و بینی بیمارستان حضرت رسول اکرم(ص) تحت درمان قرار گرفتند همگی دارای بیماری زمینه ای (دیابت و یا نقص سیستم ایمنی) بودند. اغلب بیماران در شروع، علائمی نظیر سرماخوردگی و سینوزیت داشتند و بتدریج دچار کوری، پروپتوز، فلج اعصاب زوج پنج و هفتم مغزی و کاهش سطح هوشیاری شدند. درمان این بیماران شامل درمان طبی با استفاده از آمفوتریسین و نیز درمان جراحی شامل تخلیه حفره اربیت و همچنین تخلیه سینوسها بود. اقدامات درمانی باید هر چه سریعتر انجام پذیرد و تخلیه چشم نیز در بعضی موارد می بایست مدنظر باشد.

موکورمایکوز مهلک ترین بیماری قارچی سیستمیک است که در زمینه بیماری دیابت یا نقص ایمنی بروز می کند و در صورت عدم تشخیص و درمان به موقع مرگ و میر بسیار بالایی دارد. درمان این بیماری برطرف کردن بیماری زمینه ای، درمان دارویی با آمفوتریسینb ، و دبریدمان جراحی است که هرچه مداخله جراحی سریع تر انجام شود بهبودی واضح در پیش آگهی خواهیم داشت.
